I am an entrepreneur, board member, and writer.
I have built and exited two technology companies. Today, I’m the founder and CEO of Agile Financial Technologies, a software product company serving insurance and investment management firms across thirty-five countries. Alongside my executive role, I sit on the boards of companies in retail, manufacturing, supply chain, and investment platforms. My work there is practical: governance, growth, and the hard decisions that come with scale.
Most people call me KPD. Some call me Kal.
I write poetry because it is where I can think without having to arrive anywhere. It is where leadership, work, failure, and love stop being ideas and start becoming experiences again. Things I cannot resolve in meetings or strategy decks find their way onto the page.
I write about relationships as they are lived, not as they are explained. About marriage, family, loyalty, resentment, care, and the small negotiations that happen every day between people who choose to stay. I write about work from the inside of it—pressure, responsibility, ownership, and the cost of decisions that do not come with clean endings.
Some of my books are quiet. Some are direct. Some are uncomfortable. What connects them is simple. I am trying to understand what it means to take responsibility for your life without hardening yourself in the process.
I share parts of this work on Instagram (@kalpeshdesai.official), including spoken-word pieces and fragments from my books in progress.
My first book, Jasmines in Her Hair, is about love, healing, and learning how to stay. More recently, I published What the Train Left Behind, a short literary work on migration and memory. It was listed as a hot new release in Amazon’s literary fiction category.
I’m currently working on two books.
- Anywhere but Here traces my entrepreneurial life through lived-in moments rather than milestones.
- Not on My Watch looks at leadership and ownership from inside the work, not from theory.
If you would like to connect professionally, I am on LinkedIn.
If you are interested in my spoken-word poetry, you’ll find that on Instagram.
Title: Jasmines in Her Hair
Subtitle: Poetry for the Soul
Summary: Jasmines in Her Hair is a collection of romantic poems that delve into the distinctions that have come through life’s journey, covering love, loss, pain, reconciliation, and finding love again. If everything exists inside of language, then it is the love of language that makes loving that much more exciting. And what better way to explore the profound themes of love, heartbreak, loss, trauma, healing, letting go, self-love, acceptance, personal transformation, growth, clarity, inner peace, and self-esteem than through the medium of poetry? This book will demonstrate that every relationship can be treasured and that there is as much relief in releasing ourselves from our past as there is in finding someone who gives our ability to love a new lease of life. By providing valuable insights into the personal growth process, this inspiring book encourages readers to reflect on a compelling message: you give the greatest gift to your precious self when you start mending your heart’s wounds. Beautifully written, Jasmines in Her Hair is a journey from the first throes of passion to when one finds their way to the soulmate they have been waiting for their entire life.

Title: What the Train Left Behind
Subtitle: Information not available
Summary: What the Train Left Behind is a literary short story collection set in the long aftermath of the Partition of India and Pakistan. Rather than returning to the moment of rupture, this book listens to what followed: how ordinary people adjusted to borders drawn after lives had already begun. Across spare, interconnected stories, Kalpesh Desai traces how a single people, divided by lines, continued to live familiar lives, eating the same food, speaking the same language, while slowly drifting apart. Set in everyday spaces such as homes, offices, ration queues, and courtyards, these stories follow the quiet decisions that shape destinies. A clerk delays a record. A mother teaches a safer sentence. A letter returns unopened. A song is lowered before the verse ends. What changes here is not loud or sudden, but persistent, settling into habit, language, and inheritance. Written with restraint and moral clarity, What the Train Left Behind offers a deeply human portrait of Partition's legacy across generations. This book will resonate with readers of literary fiction, diaspora communities, and anyone interested in how historical events continue to shape private lives. It is especially suited for book clubs, intergenerational conversations, and readers drawn to quiet, morally attentive storytelling. This is not a book about borders being drawn. It is about how they learned where to live.

What the Train Left Behind
This book started as a poem submitted to a poetry magazine.
It was rejected.
But the verses stayed with me.
They loosened into moments.
Moments became people.
People became lives that kept going
after the maps were already drawn.
It isn’t a big book.
But it leaves space.
Space for you to write down
stories passed on
in fragments and silences.
From grandparents. From parents.
From uncles. From aunts.
From neighbours. From friends.
From those who learned not to talk about it.
No matter which side of the fence you’re on,
this isn’t someone else’s story.
It’s already yours.
It’s an invitation.
Bring what was handed down.
Make it yours.
The book is out now. The link in my bio shows you where to get your copy from.

Undress Your Imagination
I know this #spokenword might sound sensuous (blame it on the weekend), but read this first… and then listen to it again.
Have you ever wondered how to distinguish intimacy? Or what we mean when we say “we have chemistry”?
Is it just the act or is it when they take the effort to wander into the innermost folds of your mind and explore your every thought? When they spend time to understand each word of yours — whether spoken or unspoken.
When they can anticipate your want, see who you truly are behind your guarded silences and your practiced smiles… and still choose to stay..
is that not intimacy in its purest form?
And when you find that, you will find yourself saying…
“Don’t stop.”

Ever find yourself holding your breath between prayers and hope, pondering questions you can’t quite answer?
Perhaps it is in that quiet, uncertain space, where you feel most unsure, that you finally discover what you carry within.
Growth isn’t always loud or clear.
Often, it happens softly, when you learn to accept your own capacity for change, and trust who you are meant to be.
May you learn to trust your in-between.

My Heart Longs for Karbala
This beautiful tribute to the place where Imam Hussain offered his final prayers, is written by @tuba.thoughts. It was such an honor to lend my voice to Tuba’s exquisite words.
For those unfamiliar with its history, Karbala is not merely a place on a map. It is the ground where Imam Hussain chose principle over power, refusing allegiance to injustice even when the cost was his life. In that moment, Karbala became a reminder that truth is worth any price.
Karbala is a story of sacrifice of families who faced thirst, hunger, and loss, yet refused to surrender their values. It is where women and children stood with unwavering resolve, teaching us that dignity is not tied to force, but to the quiet strength of the spirit and faith.
The story of Karbala calls us to wake up from our indifference, to live with integrity, to carry patience and courage into a world that often forgets what these words mean.
When millions gather to remember Karbala, they are renewing a promise within themselves to stand for justice, to live with honor, and to guard their conscience even when it would be easier to look away.
May the story of Imam Hussain remind us that, even in our hardest moments, we can choose to rise, to speak, and to remain true.

The Eye of the Storm
It gives me great pleasure to present my interpretation of @artbyalailescu‘s beautiful painting that is featured in my reel. Do follow Ala and her inspirational art.
When I saw the painting, it struck me that the quietest and calmest place amidst a chaotic situation is the eye of the storm. This is where the skies are clearer and winds relenting, offering you a vantage point like no other. And you know then that you don’t have to run, and you don’t have to fight.
When everything falls apart around you, find the eye of your own storm. This is where you can fold inward, and hold space for what can or need not be said. Where you can learn to gracefully accept what cannot be changed, and become cause in the matter to make a difference.
It takes great courage to stand in stillness and resist being swept into the chaos. It requires fierce determination to demonstrate your unwavering refusal to be undone.
Because it is not the storm that defines us, but what endures beyond it.

Storm Stained
This piece is inspired by the beautiful artwork (Same Color, Different Shades) by @artbyalailescu. Do follow this fabulous artist who keeps our creative juices flowing with art that inspires reflection, feeling, and thought.
It struck me how, ever so often, we weather the same storm and are exposed to the same palette of pain. And yet, some bury the ache and move on—silent and composed. Others scream, desperately, just to be heard.
We all face trauma, but we do not all emerge the same. Healing isn’t mutual, and our scars don’t mirror one another.
But here’s the truth:
We can condition ourselves to rise. Not by denying the storm—but by learning how to carry it with grace. We shape how our pains transforms us through reflection and resilience.
We may bear the same pain… But how we carry it, defines who we are.

Silent Storms
I created this #spokenword rendition of Eem’s (@theauraofrhymes) evocative poem back in January 2023. We never got around to posting it then—but here we are now, and some storms are worth the wait.
@theauraofrhymes (aka @eemnizam) is a pillar of our poetry community, and the co-founder of @poets_island. She’s also a published author, singer, model, and an absolute diva in her own right.
Ever so often, we dwell on our unspoken emotions and uncover the silent storms within. When the weight of unanswered questions and the quiet struggle for words becomes too much—when language can no longer carry what the heart holds—that’s when hollowness swells… overwhelming and raw.
We’d love to hear what you felt from this piece. And if you’re not already following @theauraofrhymes, now is the time.

Life has its own way of teaching us—
but too often, we’re not paying attention.
We live on repeat—making the same mistakes, stuck in the same chapter, and never turning the page.
And so, the lesson remains unlearned.
Experience alone doesn’t equal growth.
Not if you don’t revise the story. And definitely not if you keep clinging to the same tired narrative.

Happy Sunday, folks!
I’ve been experimenting with a #spokenword fusion of #Urdushayri and #Englishpoetry, and I teamed up with @routetomysoul to bring this vision to life. We also wanted to spice up this week leading up to Valentine’s Day, and create something that lingers. We do hope that you like this and we look forward to reading your comments.
We decided to explore how with time, we realize that love is not a pursuit; it is a homecoming. A quiet surrender, a return to something that was always meant to be. Desire is not just the hunger of the body, but the calling of the soul. A touch is not merely a touch—it can be an echo of lifetimes spent searching.
“Where there is love, there is no distance. Souls do not meet; they remember.” ~ Rumi

Milan—The Union

No great enterprise is ever built alone.
Success—whether in business, leadership, or life—is about creating ecosystems where everyone thrives.
When I founded Agile Financial Technologies, my vision was clear: innovate how financial institutions operate globally.
Today, Agile operates across 35 countries, but the journey here wasn’t just about strategy or execution. It was about building something bigger than myself:
🚀 A team deeply aligned with our vision.
🚀 A culture of clarity, where everyone understands how their work connects to the bigger picture.
🚀 An environment of connection, where collaboration drives innovation.
This success would not have been possible without my incredible team and trusted partners.
But here’s the reality most Business owners face:
📊 70% of CEOs admit to feeling lonely at the top.
And when leadership becomes isolating, decision-making, growth, and purpose often suffer.
That’s where a coach makes the difference.
@rajeshnagjee helped me break free from that isolation, challenging me to think differently, see beyond the noise, and focus on what truly matters. He provided the clarity and perspective I needed to navigate obstacles and scale with purpose.
Leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about building systems, relationships, and environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Here’s to dreaming bigger, staying purpose-driven, and inspiring one another to lead with clarity, compassion, and courage. 💡

The Why
As the year draws to a close, while some find joy in the season, I’ve noticed many wrestling with existential questions.
Sometimes, life offers no clear answers to the endless questions it poses or the challenges it lays in our path.
In those moments, the bravest thing we can do is choose the courage to stay.
Perhaps your “why” won’t be found in answers, but in the quiet moments when you let go of the need to ask.
