About Me

I am a serial-entrepreneur, having successfully exited two tech businesses. I am currently the founder and CEO of Agile Financial Technologies, a software product company that services the insurance and investment management sectors with a client base across 35 countries globally.

I am called KPD by my friends and associates, or Kal by those who find my name difficult to pronounce. I find writing poems therapeutic and this allows me to examine and present insights in an abstract manner that people can understand.

I run my own blog on Instagram (@kalpeshdesai.official) which is a teaser to a book that I am writing called “Of Ink and Paper – An Entrepreneur’s Journey”. The blog chronicles my journey as an entrepreneur and seeks to share life lessons, breakthroughs, and also personal insights that have come my way. I use the medium of poems and quotes to instill positiveness, hope, motivation, inspiration and impart valuable insights and possibilities that I invite my readers to examine. I call it “shifting your paradigm without a clutch”. I also write poems centered on relationship goals, romance, family and human interactions.

I have recently launched my first book, “Jasmines In Her Hair”,  which chronicles a journey of love, healing, and self-discovery. The links to access these books are below.

Should you wish to connect with me professionally, you will find me on LinkedIn.

Visit my Instagram page on weekends when I usually post my spokenword.

As Much as We Put In

Relationships take work. A lot of work. And whether we like to hear it or not, the truth is that reciprocity is inherent in our relationships. As it is in life.

Oftentimes we will find ourselves wondering why things are not as they used to be before. This is the time when you might want to look inward.

Are we truly present and listening to what is unsaid? Are we dusting issues under the carpet believing that if we cannot see them, they do not exist? Do we act on our craving and make space for intimacy instead of wondering why the light dimmed? And when there is a breakdown, do we recognize the need to seek help instead of letting it fester and ultimately die?

This poem is from my debut book “Jasmines in Her Hair”, available globally. Please click on the link in my bio should you wish to grab a copy today. Do tag me if you happen to review it and it will be my pleasure to give you a shoutout.

Which of these words would you like to take away today?

Resolve

In the face of adversity, we often let our past experiences shape our identity, whether they’re filled with sorrow, regrets, unfulfilled dreams, success, or failure.

And it only takes one decision to defy expectations and overcome obstacles, no matter how daunting - and that is to be unreasonable in the pursuit of your goals.

Being unyielding when it comes to getting the results we want is what fuels our unwavering determination to seize control of our fate with strength and confidence.

And that there - is how you empower yourself. Unreasonably.

If you had one takeaway from this poem, what would that be?

Unseen Barriers

Sometimes our past experiences and mistakes overshadow our ability to love fully. We reference lingering regrets, upsets, or unresolved issues from our past relationships in the current context.

Perhaps, we could consider that it is not the shadow of the past as much as the walls that we build around ourselves that prevent us from experiencing love to its fullest.

And walls can easily be broken down.

What was your key takeaway from this poem?

Shadows of lost dreams

Hope diminishes when we dwell on past dreams that haven’t been realized, and clinging on to anything that remains unfulfilled overshadows the possibility of finding new hope in the present.

Reinvention

If we need to reinvent ourselves, the first step is to remove all facades, pretenses, and defenses, and allow ourselves to be vulnerable and honest.

Only when we are unencumbered by our previous baggage can we create the space for new dreams and possibilities to emerge. And we can always forgive the old us.

For, is not reinvention by its very definition the process of changing ourselves so much that we turn into something completely new?

Breathe

When you sense that there will be no meeting ground in a conversation, instead of arguing or stopping it, would you like to consider requesting that they pause the conversation till you’ve both had time to reflect on it?

It takes a lot of courage and strength to abstain from voicing our views, opinions, justifications and excuses.

When it is no longer a conversation but an argument, then only one person can “win” it. And that presupposes that someone has to be the loser.

Pause. Breathe. Allow yourself, and the other person, to have space for reflection and understanding, rather than abruptly ending the dialogue.

Pauses have the power to foster deeper connections and prevent misunderstandings. They serve as a reminder to choose words wisely amidst uncertainty.

The art of keeping conversations alive stems from your skill in mastering a pause. And listening.

Would you consider pausing when you’re in a situation like this?

Night Sky

From “Poetic Self-portrait”, by @caroline_creativecorner.

How often do you reflect on that cozy and enchanting winter night that you would have spent admiring the beauty of nature’s silhouettes against a dark sky? These are Caroline’s memories, one of many captured in her beautiful book, “Poetic Self-portrait”, which is her memoir.

Caroline’s book takes you through her life’s journey and exudes boundless love. The poems are very visual and you get a very personal insight into the her family, events and transformation over the years. The scenes at the dinner table, her love for her partner and even the small events where the author senses pride in how her son returned the wallet he found are moments of inspiration.

Walk with her down memory lane where she shares her loss, grief, pain, sorrow and joy. Be prepared to be inspired and do yourself a favor by buying this book!

Caroline is one of the pillars of our #poetrycommunity. Her selfless efforts in promoting all of us by launching prompts, reading our poems, and supporting our initiatives, have become a launchpad for many of us here. And we are truly grateful.

Release

When you read this poem, consider that this could hold relevance to your relationships, your dreams, your ambitions, or even that bucket list that you could not tick off.

When we keep reflecting on the wounds of the past, we face the struggle of having to hold onto memories and dreams that have faded away, or have been buried deep.

And despite the pain, the only way to embrace new beginnings is to release ourselves from our should haves, would haves and could haves.

It is only in the release of a dream of the past, that we have the space to dream anew.

This poem was written for a prompt (“Necropolis of hope” & “my soul has scars”) by @aperpetratorwithaquill and @calamity.cupcake11 who called on us to help March go out with a bang and not be bitter. I know I’ve exceeded their word count limit, but this was a fun prompt where I felt I could bring out a universal message.

In quietude when we listen to the echoes of our torn and broken hearts, we discover the profound wisdom in unspoken words. And old souls will trace those words with ink on paper, hoping that they will find solace and sanctuary in rhymes of healing and hope.

That is poetry.

Happy #WorldPoetryDay ! This #tanka was inspired by @poeticreveries_’s Writer’s Lift.

Relinquish

It is very difficult to sustain love if trust issues are at play. And then one needs to consider that surrendering to trust and faith would help dilute the doubt that creeps into our minds now and then. And perhaps then, that would give access to being able to converse with each other in words that are centered in grace.

And should they break your trust anyway, the fact that you offered grace means that the onus is no longer on you, and you can continue to remain whole and complete- in integrity. You did your part and did not come in the way of allowing it to work.

Unheard

From “Finding Her Being Her”, by Nilam Patel (@nilam.poetry).

Every so often our opinions and thoughts are dismissed, and we are offered advice by people who have not understood us at all. This poem invites you to learn to trust and listen to your own voice amidst the constant barrage of unsolicited opinions and judgments.

“Finding Her Being Her” by Nilam Patel is a compelling poetry collection that takes readers on a profound exploration of womanhood through its three thought-provoking chapters – Finding Her, Being Her, and Loving Her. She delves deep into the essence of being a woman and examines the multifaceted aspects that define femininity.

The first chapter, ‘Finding Her’ opens with a powerful quote by the author, “Without a woman’s strength, courage, and love, God himself would not exist.” This bold proclamation sets the tone for the entire book, highlighting the strength and resilience that women bring to the world.
Nilam skillfully unravels the layers of womanhood, celebrating the unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs that shape the feminine identity and the complexities inherent in the female experience.

‘Being Her’ delves into the emotions and vulnerabilities that women often navigate, presenting a nuanced perspective that resonates with readers on a personal level. The poems capture the raw and authentic moments of womanhood and motherhood, creating a relatable and emotionally charged reading experience.

The highlight of the book is the final chapter, ‘Loving Her’, where you are taken on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, and urged to embrace your true selves unapologetically. The poems in this section are a celebration of individuality and empowerment, inspiring readers to break free from expectations and be true to their authentic selves.

“Finding Her Being Her” is skillfully crafted and a celebration of life. And whilst it may have been a poetic journey for Nilam, for the reader it is an invaluable guide.

Please do follow @nilam.poetry if you’re not doing so already. And do pick up a copy of this fabulous book (Links in her bio).

In the darkness

From “Tiny Thoughts”, by Alexandra Popa (@_the.ephemeral.soul_).

This powerful poem called to me when I read Alex’s book. It takes a lot of courage to embrace one’s inner demons and the shadows of what was once our dreams. It is only when we acknowledge and embrace them, can we deal with them to our advantage.

Enchanting and succinct, ‘Tiny Thoughts”, by Popa (@_the.ephemeral.soul_), is a micro poetry collection that delves into the intricacies of love and life with profound brevity. Divided into 6 chapters and a section dedicated highlighting poets from the veritable InstaPoets community, you will find each verse is a tiny universe, revealing nuanced emotions and thought-provoking reflections.

Alex has the ability to distill complex feelings into a few lines. What I loved most was the poetic journey the author takes us through. ‘Poetry’ gives us an insight into the mind of a poet and how one can bleed their thoughts on paper to find themselves. ‘Flowers’ walks us through the throes of passion and desire. ‘Dark’ explores the emotions we encounter in our darkest moments and how we may strengthen our resolve to move past them. ‘Coffee’ and ‘Cosmic’, are my favorite chapters – introspective and filled with nuggets of wisdom. And then there is ‘Love’, where you explore the layers of human connection, and what it means to love.

‘Tiny Thoughts’ is a compelling poetic exploration of human emotions, that lingers. Should you keep this book on your coffee table, it will keep inviting you back to revisit its pages and discover new layers of meaning with each reading.

Mustard Seed

From “Finding Pieces of Me: In Life, Love, Praise and Poetry”, by Roselle (@mypoetryandstories).

This is one of my favorite poems from Roselle’s book. It speaks of how even an insignificant being can prosper and grow purely based on faith. It reminds us of God’s love that nurtures and shelters us. And however insignificant we may be in the face of his creation, we can still grow tall and strong under his grace.

Rarely can a book truly move me to the point where my eyes can no longer be dry. Roselle has this evocative style of writing that transports you vividly into her memories. The words will touch and move you as if you were part of the event narrated in her poetry. This poetic journey will highlight her amazing strength and resilience and you soon realize that the source is her ability to surrender to the grace of God and demonstrate gratitude for the memories, survival, and lessons learned. In the book, the illustrations by her son, Hawke, are so on point and bring forth the imagery in the words. This book is an inspirational must-read when you feel that you are wavering on faith and struggling to deal with grief, loss, or ailment.

Sanctuary

If it feels like a sanctuary, where your fears, anxieties, and secrets are safe, and your heart is free to speak without having to utter words, then it is love - a haven where tears and sorrows are welcome, but never overwhelming.

In the quiet moments, when we find the courage to speak the truth and feel the depth of our emotions, and a single touch, a lingering glance, tells us everything we need to know.

And perhaps when you say you feel loved, what you’re really saying is that you found yourself in a safe space for your soul to be truly seen and heard.

If these words are what you wish you said to someone you love, use the audio to make your own reel, or tag them here.

Hungry

Men can express only one of two emotions, I was told. If we don’t want it, then feed us a sandwich, they say.

I beg to differ. We are more than this. We can demonstrate both emotions at the same time.

If this brought a smile to you then I’m glad.

If this triggered you, there’s a link in my bio that would lead you to Amazon where you could leave a review. But oh, you’ll have to buy my book first.

And for those who expected a profound post, my sincere apologies. It’s Friday.

Happy weekend, humans!

Faith

If you have come across these words today, you were meant to see this and read the caption.

And if this distinction hits home, please do tag or share this with someone who needs to hear this today.

Perhaps, one of the most difficult distinctions to grapple with is that of faith. We say “I trust you”, “I believe in you”, but rarely say “I have faith in you”. Because faith doesn’t require empirical evidence but ingrained belief, values and intuition. Sometimes, simply because we have been told to have faith.

And maybe relationships could turn out healthier, and last longer, on the basis of faith in one another? Trust without faith is hollow.

If you cannot get around to saying “I have faith in you”, then perhaps the foundation of the relationship is in question.

And should there be a betrayal, remember that it is not faith that was betrayed.

Because you can always have faith, but can only offer trust.
